interesting nytimes article (brought to my attention by a friend) concerning china and sudan. basically, china is pumping oil out of sudan and payment to the regime in power is coming in the form of supplying the government of sudan with millions of dollars worth of weapons - which are being used (although denied) in very mean and ugly ways towards the people in darfur. worse of all, the chinese government is turning a blind eye to what is going on in darfur despite growing international concern (not that other governments are without their own critism). with the olympics coming up, beijing might need to do some damage control.
